Billy SundayGoing to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than going to a garage makes you an automobile.
About This Quote
I can see where this quote would come off as mean, but it isn’t. The purpose of the quote is to provide a guide for how you should act when you are in church. You don’t go to church to make you a Christian; you go because the act of going to church (of becoming one) is something you do in order to grow in your relationship with God. If you really think about it, when you go to church, your goal is not to become a Christian.
Your goal is to spend time with God and with other people who want the same thing. A garage or an automobile are tools that help us do the things we want to do, but they aren’t our purpose. Similarly, once you have become a Christian, your goal is not to continue being one.
Your goal is to continue holding on to God and growing in your relationship with him.
