Religion is the biggest killer in the world today. Religion has killed more people in the name of God than any other cause. This includes in the name of war, in the name of politics, in the name of sex or in the name of money. Religious wars have claimed more lives than all wars combined, including World War II.

The spirit of God is clearly against killing which is why religious wars are no different from any other war. If people are doing it for money or for power or for fame then that is something that cannot be accepted by God.
