About This Quote

When the knight came to the phoenix, he was amazed that a dead bird could have such beautiful feathers. The phoenix told him that she had been dead for a thousand years and that she would not be dead a second time. The knight asked her how it could be done, and she said, “You must cut off my head.” The knight was afraid to do this, but he had come so far to find the phoenix that he took out his sword and cut off her head. She rose from the dead and flew away with him, never to be seen again.
