About This Quote

In this quote from the novel "The Old Man and the Sea", Ernest Hemingway shares a story about a man who spent his entire life working as a fisherman off the coast of Cuba. One day, the old man's boat was completely destroyed by a hurricane. Desperate, he tried to make it to shore, but failed. He had given up hope of ever seeing his family again.

But, when he returned to his boat, he discovered that his cat had brought him back to shore for him. Despite having no way of getting home, the old man was determined to start over. He found some wood and started to build a new boat out of it.

He then set out on the sea again, determined not to give up until he made it back home.
