Everything has changed... except the way we think. The aim [of education] must be the training of independently acting and thinking individuals, who, however, see in the service of community their highest life problems

Albert Einstein
About This Quote

Education is not only the task of imparting knowledge, but also of training the student to be, in the words of the writer, an "independent acting and thinking individual." This means that education can take place only by means of a process through which, as education is individualized, the individual learns not only to think for himself but also to act on his own behalf. It must establish in him a capacity for taking responsibility for his life. His mind must be freed from preconceived notions. Although it is true that what has changed since this quotation was first written is principally the scientific approach to learning, it remains valid today. The aim of education must be the training of independently acting and thinking individuals who see in the service of community their highest life problems.
