Where there is lack of ‘Gnan’ (Knowledge and experience of the Self; real Knowledge) there is worldly existence and where there is ‘Gnan’ (Real Knowledge), there is no worldly existence.

About This Quote

The real Knowledge is the knowledge of the Self. If there were no knowledge of the Self, the idea of worldly existence does not exist for you. The world is an illusion; an unreal dream, which does not exist except as a form of play. This play may have a great deal of meaning for one who takes it seriously, but it only has meaning because one has identified with it.

For that person, it may be life-giving or at least useful, but it is because he has identified with this play that he finds life useful. But for someone who has identified with his Self as the Real Knowledge, everything else is merely an illusion. It possesses no power to push him on to further stages in his journey because he has gone beyond them.

He can go nowhere at all if he does not know what path to take. He cannot go forward unless he knows where to go and how to get there.
