About This Quote

The quote, “Every morning I jump out of bed and step on a landmine. The landmine is me. After the explosion, I spend the rest of the day putting the pieces together.,” was written by cartoonist and author Osamu Tezuka. Tezuka was a Japanese cartoonist and manga artist who is considered to be one of the most influential creators in the history of modern manga and its subsequent adaptations in anime and film.

He was known for creating manga series such as Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, Phoenix and X. Tezuka’s life was full of tragedy and pain. Both his parents died when he was young and he lost his sight when he was ten years old. It is this tragic background that gives us such wonderful insight into his work.

His stories reflect this painful reality with characters who are broken physically or mentally, but always find their way back to standing up again.
