About This Quote

In the Gospel of Matthew, there is a story about a woman named Mary. When John the Baptist told her that she had been chosen by God to bear a child, she became terrified. Instead of being humbled by God’s grace and power, she burst into tears and protested that she was not worthy to have a child. She became so upset that she started to doubt God’s love for her.

Fortunately, Jesus came along at this time and reassured her that she was indeed worthy of the greatest gift from God – a child who would one day become his Savior. He reminded her of how his mother Mary had allowed him to be born in a manger instead of a mansion with servants and waited eagerly for his return with an angelic announcement. He also reminded her that he had risen from the dead three days after being crucified – a fact that only Mary herself knew about – and would do so again on the third day.
