After dinner or lunch or whatever it was -- with my crazy 12-hour night I was no longer sure what was what -- I said, "Look, baby, I'm sorry, but don't you realize that this job is driving me crazy? Look, let's give it up. Let's just lay around and make love and take walks and talk a little. Let's go to the zoo. Let's look at animals. Let's drive down and look at the ocean. It's only 45 minutes. Let's play games in the arcades. Let's go to the races, the Art Museum, the boxing matches. Let's have friends. Let's laugh. This kind of life like everybody else's kind of life: it's killing us. Charles Bukowski
About This Quote

During the 1960s, Steve Jobs and his wife were having a difficult time acting as a couple. Steve Jobs worked incessantly, leaving Lisa to take care of their children while he worked. When Steve left for work, Lisa would find herself in tears because she missed him so much. She wanted to be with him so badly that she felt homesick.

She wanted to share her life with him but was unable to do so. That very night, Steve Jobs came home from work early and found Lisa crying in the bedroom. He was shocked because he hadn't realized that his long hours at work had caused her so much pain. He knew that he should have spent more time with her, but he didn't want to lose his job because he needed it very much. He said, "Lisa, what's wrong? Why are you crying?" And she said, "Well, tonight I realized how much I miss you when you're not here." He said, "I miss you too." And she said, "Steve, I'm really unhappy when you're gone." "I know," he answered matter-of-factly.

"It's killing me too." She then said that she understood that they were both miserable and that they should try to make it work -- even though they both knew that it wouldn't be easy. She said that she wanted to go back to the way things were before they began their marriage because she wanted to live with him all the time and spend all of his time with him. He agreed wholeheartedly and said that he would try very hard to change his ways so she would be happy once again.

He asked her what she would like them to do first since the only thing on their agenda was absolutely killing them both inside. She told him that all she wanted was for him to hold her and kiss her very gently just like he used to do when they were young before their marriage started making them unhappy - before they got caught up in their jobs and became strangers when they weren't together. He agreed happily and proceeded to go into the bedroom where she was waiting for him ...
