The King of England, Henry VIII, decided to marry his daughter, Catherine of Aragon, to the son of the King of Spain. At the time, this marriage would have been one of the most important in all of England. Henry wanted to unite England and Spain under the same roof. Unfortunately, he had an even greater goal in mind.

He wanted to divorce Catherine and marry Anne Boleyn. This way he would have two wives instead of one and he could do whatever he pleased with them both. To this day, historians are not sure why Henry wanted to divorce Catherine so badly or if he truly ever meant it.

That’s not the point here. It’s just that for all his power Henry never wanted to marry Anne Boleyn. The question is why?
