Wisdom Kwashie Mensah is a Ghanaian-born American author, editor, and speaker. Born in Accra, Ghana, Mensah moved to America with her family when she was two years old. She later earned a master's degree in literature at CCNY and an MFA from Columbia University. Mensah is the author of nine books of fiction and nonfiction including two collections of short stories, three novels, and three volumes of poetry. Among her many awards are the New York State Council on the Arts Fellowship for Writers (1990), the Stonewall Scholar Award (2001), the German Marshall Fund of the United States Fellowship (2002), the Stonewall Book Award (2006), and the Lambda Literary Award (2009).
