William Bernbach is a legend of advertising and the founding father of modern branding. He has been called the "father of modern advertising," and is one of the most influential people in the history of marketing. Born in 1925, Bernbach grew up in New York City and attended the High School of Music & Art. After graduating, Bernbach got a job as an assistant copywriter at Leo Burnett Advertising Agency, which later became Leo Burnett Worldwide, and was then named creative director in 1956
He remained with Leo Burnett for 17 years and then became CEO and president of Grey Advertising in 1970. In 1983, he was named chairman and CEO of McCann-Erickson Worldwide Inc., one of the world's leading advertising agencies. Today he continues to support creativity through his William Bernbach Foundation for Creativity.
