Wilbur J. Cobb was born in Delaware County, Mississippi on February 16, 1897. After receiving his education in the rural schools of Mississippi, he entered the University of Mississippi at Oxford as a student in 1915. While there he became a member of Phi Kappa Literary Society and a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity
He left the University in 1917 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. During World War I he served as a Private with Company E, Field Artillery, United States Army from March 11, 1917 to 1919. Mr.
Cobb received his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1920 and was admitted to the State Bar of Mississippi on September 3, 1920. In 1924 he married Mary Jane Liddell and they have two children: Wilbur Jr., age 19 and Mary Jane Liddell-Cobb, age 17.
