Walter Raleigh was a prolific English writer and poet, and a friend and patron of the court of Elizabeth I. He was also a courtier and favourite of the Earl of Leicester and an admirer of Sir Walter Raleigh (1554-1618), himself a son and namesake of Walter Raleigh. In 1584 he married Dorothy Norman, daughter of William Norman, 1st Baron Norman. His works include The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia, In Praise of Women, The Rape of Lucrece, The Legende of Good Women.
