Vanessa Mae is a British classical crossover violinist and recording artist, who began playing the violin at the age of four. She was the youngest ever to play in the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden at the age of seven and began her career with the London Philharmonic Orchestra aged eight. Her father was a cellist in the LPO and decided to give her music lessons when she was only three years old. Her debut album, released in 1992, went straight to number one in Britain and number two in Germany and Switzerland
She won a Brit Award for Best Newcomer in 1993 and both Grammys and BRIT Awards in 1994 for Best British Female Solo Artist, Record of the Year for "Wildest Moments" (UK) and Best Single (US).
