He then wrote The Last King of Scotland, which was chosen as one of the ten best books of the year by the New York Times. He has also written For My Grandchildren, a history of the National Trust for Scotland, which was published in Britain in 2002, and Trust Me I'm An Englishman, a history of the English National Trust.
