Thomas S. Kuhn was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 12,1922 and died on September 12,1996. He joined the Department of Physics at the University of Chicago in 1951 and was promoted to assistant professor in 1954. He then joined the Physics Department at Princeton University (1954-1958), where he was promoted to associate professor (1956) and full professor (1958)
In 1958, he joined the faculty of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), where he remained for the rest of his career. Kuhn is best known for "inventing" a new discipline called "science studies," which attempts to explain and interpret science.
