Theophrastus is a Greek name meaning “lover of wisdom.” His full name was Theophrastus Philippus Aureolus Bombastus von Hohenheim. He was a Greek botanist, zoologist, and philosopher who lived from ca. 287 to ca. CE 342
With his friend and disciple, Paracelsus, he is considered the father of toxicology. He studied under the celebrated Greek physician and teacher Antidotarius Rufus, who was also a philosopher and a philosopher-physician. His only known work is the "Enquiry into Plants", a comprehensive encyclopedia of life in which he discussed plants' medical properties and remedies for various ailments.
