She was discovered by her high school sweetheart David Lawrence, who played bass for her. Her career started with a spot on "The Grand Ole Opry" in 1988.
She signed to Columbia Records in 1993 and released her debut album "Wildflower". Although the album failed to make any major impact at country radio, she was nominated for two Country Music Association awards in 1994.
Her second album ("I Still Believe") was released in 1995 and produced three top ten singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart: "I Still Believe", "Timeless Road" and "That's What I Get for Lovin' You".
She starred as herself in the 1996 made-for-TV film "Foolish Heart", which was based on her first single. The film garnered a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress – Television Film. In 1997, she released the single "Lonely Girl", but it failed to enter any charts.
Her third studio album "A Place in My Heart" was released in 1998, but it failed to produce any charting singles. The title track reached #82 on the Country charts while "It's All About Love" reached #51 on the Adult Contemporary charts.
Her self-titled fifth studio album was released by EMI-Curb Records in 2000, but it failed to produce any charting singles. Her last release for EMI-Curb Records was the single "I Want You To Know" which reached #34 on the Billboard country charts late that year.
Her last release for Curb Records was the compilation album "Greatest Hits". It featured all of her singles except for "Lonely Girl". She has since signed with Republic Nashville She has recorded duets with Tim McGraw, George Strait, Randy Travis, Tanya Tucker and many others.
