He studied at Musashino Art School and Tokyo University of Arts. After graduating from art school, he apprenticed with the legendary jazz trumpeter Mayumi Miyamoto. He started his career as a jazz trumpeter in 1964 and created his own jazz band called "Takeshi’s Jazz Band".

In 1967, Takeshi Shudo formed his own rock band called "The Fooled Flock" which had many hit songs including "Yellow River", "Treasure Mountain", "Blue Sky" and "Going Home". Throughout the 1970s, he became one of the most popular songwriters in Japan. His songs included "Happy Birthday", "Candy Cola Girl", and "Snow White".

From 1960 to 1970, Takeshi Shudo played at many clubs throughout Japan including The Blue Note Tokyo, The Blue Note Osaka, The Blue Note Yokohama, The Blue Note Nagoya, The Blue Note Kobe and The Blue Note Fukuoka. At the end of the 1970s he formed the band Takeshi's Jazz Band which toured all over Japan through the 1980s. In 1986, Takeshi Shudo began to produce music for TV programs like Techno Police, Space Hunter (Yoshiyuki Tomino), Coolest (Yoshiyuki Tomino), Eiga Hayakuza (Shinsuke Takizawa).

From 1993 onwards he produced music for video games such as Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Hudson Soft), Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure (Disney). In 1997 he composed music for two anime series Dragon Ball Z and Tenchi Muyo!. He has written countless jingles for television commercials throughout Japan including a famous campaign for Lifebuoy Soap in 1985 which won a gold award at Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

He has recently begun writing fiction novels with a focus on social commentary and is also active as a columnist in various newspapers including Asahi Newspaper and Yomiuri Newspaper.
