Trained as an engineer at Cornell University, Pickens has served on the boards of many major corporations including BP America Inc., Dow Chemical Co., TransOriente Corp., Sun Oil Co., Union Pacific Railroad Co., Texaco Inc., and Pan American Energy Corp. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, serves on the advisory board of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University, and has been a member of the United States Secretary of Energy Advisory Board since 1998.
