Stafford Beer is a doctor of medicine and a professor emeritus of psychiatry at the University of Toronto. His research interests include the neurobiology of emotion and the clinical application of psychoanalysis. He has published more than 340 papers and several books on these subjects, as well as on psychosomatic medicine, psychotherapy, and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. He was President of the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA) from 1994 to 1997.
