Spencer Tracy was born in Nebraska. He got his start in show business when he was a child, performing at the Lincoln Square Theater in New York City. After serving in the Air Force during World War II, he made his Broadway debut in 1946 in Within the Gates. His career continued with memorable performances in several Oscar-winning films including Bad Day at Black Rock, Judgment at Nuremberg, and Wuthering Heights
His final film role came with his role in The Old Man and the Sea (1958). Tracy received four Academy Award nominations throughout his career; all for Best Actor; however, he never won an Oscar. He died in 1967 at age 51 after battling stomach cancer.
