Simon, known as "the Zealot," was a Pharisee and a secret disciple of Jesus. He was an important member of the Jerusalem Church and supported the apostles in their ministry. Simon accompanied Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey. He was chosen by Paul to accompany them on their journey to Macedonia and Greece and was the only one of the twelve who did not return with them to Jerusalem (Acts 12:17; 13:1–3; 14:5)
After the apostles' return to Jerusalem, he went back with them to assist in their ministry (Acts 15:32; 20:4). Simon is mentioned again in Acts 21:18 (cf. 20:4) and Mark 16:7–9.
