Shinya Yamanaka is a Japanese scientist, best known for his work in stem cell research. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2014 for "for groundbreaking experiments regarding embryonic stem cells and haematopoietic (blood) stem cells." He is currently a director at the Gladstone Institutes of the University of California, San Francisco.
