Saravana Kumar Murugan - also known as Murugan is a Malayalam novelist, born on December 12, 1973 in Kuttippuram, Kerala. He graduated from the University of Kerala with a degree in Economics, followed by a B.Ed. degree from the same university.
Murugan's first novel "Nandanam" came out in 1994 and was a great success. It was made into a film in 2001 and won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment

The film was also commercially successful at the box office and his second novel "Parayumpol" also made it to the silver screen as a movie in 2002. In 2005, his novel "Moodu Ninnu Puthran" debuted as a movie as well. This film became a blockbuster and earned him the National Film Award for Best Screenplay - Malayalam that year.
He also wrote two novels based on the Ramayana – "Sita Ramayana" and "Hanuman".
The former was adapted into a film by director Vinayan under the same name – Sita Ramayana – in 2004 starring Mohanlal and Padmapriya.
Murugan has also teamed up with Anil Panachooran for publishing his novels through his literary house – Acres Press – located at Thiruvananthapuram which has been recognized as one of India's leading houses for publishing fiction. A new venture-Acres Fiction-was launched by Murugan in April 2011 to publish fiction in English, Malayalam and Tamil, with Acres having so far brought out both his novels in prose - Sita Ramayana (Anil Panachooran), Malayalam which sold over 10,000 copies in its first year of publication (2013) and Moodu Ninnu Puthran (Acres), along with an English translation of Pariyumpol (Acres) in November 2013 which sold over 15,000 copies in just three months of its release alone. Acres is known for its niche niche publishing of literary fiction with little or no crossover appeal to children or young adults which includes works by authors like Amish Tripathi, Jayakant Desai, Ravi Subramanian , Jayaraj Varma , Muthulakshmi Reddy , Rajeshwari Haidol , Santhosh Sivasankaran
