S. Alexander O'Keefe is a writer and teacher who lives in upstate New York. After graduating from the University of Virginia, he worked for a time with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and then spent ten years teaching English in Japan
He studied Japanese literature, linguistics, and translation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Virginia. In 2004 he published his first novel, "Grow," which won the 2007 PEN/Hemingway award for debut fiction. His second novel, "Love," was a Junior Literary Guild selection in 2009.
O'Keefe teaches creative writing at Binghamton University in New York State and lives with his wife and three children in Binghamton while he writes full-time.
