Robert H. Gurney, Ph.D., was born in Pittsburgh on January 31, 1946. He grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio where he received his primary and secondary education. He attended college at Bowling Green State University and received a Bachelor's degree in psychology
Before going to graduate school, he worked for a year at a mental health center in Cleveland. At the same time, he was a student in the School Psychology Program at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland where he received a Master's Degree in 1973. In 1976 he received a Doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Gurney has been teaching at Ohio Northern for thirty-four years and is currently Department Chairperson of the School Psychology Program and Director of the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD).
