Robert H. Bolton is the author of numerous books about art, including The Art of Leonardo da Vinci; The Art of Michelangelo; The Art of Caravaggio; The Art of Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn; The Art of Paul Cézanne; and The Art of Claude Monet. He has also written more than seventy articles on art, and more than a hundred reviews and articles about art for various newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Life, The Saturday Evening Post, and The New Yorker
In addition, he has lectured widely on art, including at Yale University's conference on "Living with Europe," presented by the American Institute of Graphic Arts. He is a trustee emeritus of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and a trustee of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. He received his MFA from Harvard University in 1947 and his PhD from Princeton University in 1948.
