He is best known for his series of "investment advice" books, including the groundbreaking 1937 bestseller How to Get Rich. His personal wealth enabled him to be a leader of the so-called "top-hatted men," a group of wealthy Americans who supported charitable causes in the 1920s. He was also a Freemason.
