Richard Schickel is the author of over twenty-five books, including "The Men Who Made the Movies," "The Silent World of Charlie Chaplin," "The Cinema of Akira Kurosawa," "The Films of Woody Allen," "The Films of Orson Welles," "Hollywood Directors" and "Television" as well as biographies on Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin, Ingmar Bergman, Akira Kurosawa and Joseph L. Mankiewicz. He is a member of the board of directors of the American Film Institute, where he is secretary/treasurer. Schickel was a consultant or advisor to more than a hundred motion pictures and television productions. He received a B.A. in history from Harvard University and an M.A.
in media history from UCLA, where he also taught film history for over twenty years. A native of Los Angeles, Mr. Schickel lives in California with his wife, actress Georgeann Schickel (known for her roles in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Chicago"), and their two daughters.
