Rex Reed was born in the Bronx, New York, in 1955. He attended the High School of Music & Art in New York City, where he wrote his first short story, "The Man With the Golden Voice" for the school literary magazine. He went on to earn a BA in English literature at Binghamton University. Later, he earned an MFA in creative writing from Long Island University
Reed worked as a writer for Esquire magazine for five years, before moving to Hollywood to pursue screenwriting. His credits include The Last Boy Scout, True Crime and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and son.
