Reggie Jackson was an American professional baseball player. He played his entire Major League Baseball (MLB) career as a third baseman for the New York Yankees (1962–1973, 1975–1979), Oakland Athletics (1979), New York Mets (1980), and California Angels (1981–1982). He was the Yankee captain before being traded to Oakland. He retired in 1979 after fighting with team president Gabe Paul over business decisions made by the manager Billy Martin. The Oakland–Los Angeles "Bay Bridge Series" became one of the best-known rivalries in baseball.
Jackson is one of only three players to have his number retired by multiple teams; along with Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams, he is one of only six players to have had two numbers retired by two different franchises.
