Raymond Beresford Hamilton was a New Zealand novelist, journalist and playwright. He was born at Wellington on 23 May 1884 and died at Mataura on 10 August 1953. He attended Wellington College and Victoria University, where he received a BA in 1907 and an MA in 1911. He married Jessie Katherine Mary Goldie (1884–1945) on 20 March 1913; they had one daughter
He spent most of his working life as a journalist and novelist, writing for The Evening Post for many years and ultimately becoming editor of the New Zealand Truth. He published several novels, including the world's first bicycle novel, "Bicycle Bill" (1904), and "The Zodiac Caravan" (1923). At the time of his death he had only recently completed two books: "The Golden Rocket" (1952) and "The Overland Mail Coach" (1951).
