Randall Arthur served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1971, and was an active duty officer in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1973. He attended West Point in 1969, but was expelled before graduation for participating in an anti-war protest. He eventually earned his GED by correspondence. Arthur's career has also included work as a sportswriter for the Boston Herald, a ghostwriter for Peter Ueberroth, and an editor at Playboy magazine. He has written for numerous television shows, including All in the Family, M*A*S*H, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, The Jeffersons, Laverne & Shirley, Taxi, CHiPs and Murder She Wrote.
