Pina Bausch was born in Wuppertal, Germany. She is best known for her choreographic ensemble Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. She has been working as a choreographer since the late 1970s. This work includes productions of "Pina Bausch's Pina Tango" at the Berlin State Opera, "Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch" at the Bavarian State Opera, and "Pina Bausch's Halleluja" at the Berliner Stadtballett
Her first solo show was performed in 1983, called "Pina Bausch's Kleine Nachtmusik". This first work earned her great acclaim and attention. Since then she has produced numerous works for other choreographers, which have been staged at many world-renowned dance centres.
