Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais was a French Enlightenment writer and playwright. He was born in Paris and died there. He was a prolific writer, producing an estimated 1,400 books and pamphlets. He was a prominent member of the Academy of Sciences (1747–1784) and his works remained influential throughout the 18th century
