Phumi Ngwane is a South African psychiatrist and academic. She worked as a psychiatrist in Johanesburg, Mozambique, where she witnessed the effects of the HIV/Aids pandemic first hand. Over the next decade, she wrote extensively about mental health issues in the context of HIV/Aids, primarily for the local media. Her research on the psychological effects of HIV/Aids prompted her to establish an online community for people living with HIV/Aids in South Africa - MTHRIBS (Mental Health Resources for Living with HIV AIDS). She holds a Master's degree in Psychology and is currently developing training modules for health professionals on how to help people living with HIV/Aids through psychosocial support.
