Phineas Flynn was born in 1883 in Ireland. He came to the United States at the age of twenty-one and became an American citizen two years later. He was educated in many schools, but at the age of nineteen he was apprenticed to a tailor in Boston, where he remained for three years. He then took up the trade of tailor himself
It was while working in his father's shop that he had his first novel published. He continued to write throughout his life and published more than thirty books between 1912 and 1940, mostly on various aspects of education. After retiring from his business he spent his time writing on various subjects including education, religion, social philosophy, and ethnology.
He died on May 12, 1948 in New York City at the age of seventy-two.
