Peter Eisenman is an American architect, who is best known for his work on the Database of the Republic of Macedonia. He was born in 1946 in Vienna, Austria, to a Jewish family. In 1971 he received his PhD from MIT and also studied at Yale University and Harvard University. In 1972 he was appointed professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Since 1984 he has been a professor at the Yale School of Architecture.
Peter Eisenman's works are characterized by their outstanding formal quality and by a strong search for a spatial logic that makes a dialogue with the history of architecture possible.
His architectural designs have been realized in numerous countries including Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Great Britain, Denmark, Japan and the USA. Peter Eisenman's works have been awarded with numerous international awards including The Prince of Asturias Award for Art and Science in 1990, The Royal Gold Medal for Architecture in 1993 and The Wolf Prize for Art and Technology in 1997.
Peter Eisenman has been awarded honorary doctorates by the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (Spain), Universidad Nacional de San Cristobal (Colombia), Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas (El Salvador), Università di Roma La Sapienza (Italy).
