Pep Guardiola is a Spanish football manager and former player. He is the current manager of English club Manchester City and a former midfielder. Guardiola began his managerial career at age 31 in the third-tier Tercera División with Banyoles, whom he led to promotion to Segunda División B in his second season. He then served as assistant manager to Frank Rijkaard at Barcelona before being named head coach of the Barça B team on 16 July 2006
In 2008, he was promoted to Barça's first team, where he spent three seasons. In his debut season, Guardiola won the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League. In his second season, he led Barça to a La Liga title and a double of the Copa del Rey and Champions League.
During a press conference on 13 December 2008, Guardiola announced that he would be leaving Barcelona after three seasons due to a "mutual decision", stating that he wished to take more time away from football. On 23 June 2009, Guardiola agreed to become manager of FC Bayern Munich for a period of three years on a contract starting on 1 July 2009. On 26 February 2012, Bayern Munich announced they had agreed on termination of his contract by mutual consent after two seasons at the club.
