Paula Radcliffe is a British athlete. She was born in Edmonton, England on February 20, 1975. She attended the University of Exeter where she took up running and became a member of the British 800m team for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In 1998 she was named BBC Sports Personality of Year and in 1999 won both the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award and World Sportswoman of the Year Awards. She was awarded an MBE in 2000 and then in September 2002 she announced her retirement from competitive athletics. Paula also runs a two-day marathon for charity every year called Run to Fight Cancer.
