In 1897, he made his professional debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid. In his early 30s, he toured Europe and America with legendary musicians such as Johannes Brahms, Pablo de Sarasate and Fritz Kreisler. His first great success was with the Brahms Cello Concerto which he performed with Jean-Paul Alibert at Carnegie Hall in 1930.
His other recordings include two cello concertos which were recorded by Pablo Casals with the NBC Symphony Orchestra in 1959 and 1970 respectively.
