Nrane Saroyan was a writer and journalist whose work appeared in Time, Life, Newsweek, and other publications. Born in Armenia in 1937, she emigrated to the U.S. as a child during World War II. She went to work as a teacher and then as a reporter for the Armenian Daily News, where she covered the Civil Rights Movement as well as the Black Power Movement
She became one of the first female reporters at the National Observer and later became editor of The New Republic before turning to freelance writing. She died in 2010.
