Neil LaBute is an American screenwriter, playwright, and film director. He is the author of the plays "The Shape of Things" (1993), "Away from Her" (2004), and most recently, "The Mercy Seat" (2014), which won the Tony Award for Best Play. He has written five films, including Black Swan (2010) starring Natalie Portman, Killing Them Softly (2012) with Brad Pitt, Your Highness (2013) with Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams, and The We  (2014). His television work includes the adaptation of his play "In the Red", for HBO in 2002.
