Nadia Boulanger was born in Paris, France, in 1893. She studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Nadia Boulanger, for whom she was named. She later became director of the Paris Conservatoire where she taught until her death in 1979. Her students included Aaron Copland, Igor Stravinsky, George Crumb (with whom she conducted "Le Sacre du Printemps"), Leonard Bernstein and many other prominent composers.
