Miyamoto Musashi (1584–1645) was a samurai warrior and one of the greatest swordsmen in history. He is best known for his treatise, The Book of Five Rings (or the Book of Two Swords). Musashi was an avid student of Zen Buddhism, and he drew much inspiration for his writing from life experiences. His book is considered to be one of the most influential works on martial arts philosophy ever written.
