His second novel, "Stolen Moments", won the 2008 Ned Kelly Award for Best Young Adult Novel, the 2007 Australian Christian Book of the Year Award, and the 2008 Queensland Premier's Literary Awards. His 2011 novel "The Mirror" was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award in 2012. The Mirror was also shortlisted for the Voss Literary Award in 2012 and the Ned Kelly Award in 2013. He is a contributing editor to "The Oxford Companion to Australian Literature" (2011), and his essays have appeared in several anthologies including "The Oxford Book of Australian Essays" (2005) and "Writers at Work: Selected Nonfiction" (2007). He has written for "The Age", "Sydney Morning Herald", "The Monthly", "Eureka Street", "Powys Literary Review", and other publications.
