Melanie Fiona was born in Jamaica to a Christian family of the Rastafari movement. As a young child, she traveled extensively with her family. At the age of nine, she was moved to Miami, Florida, where she attended the prestigious Miami Palmetto School for Girls. She went on to graduate from Louisiana State University with a BFA in Acting
Following college, she pursued acting in film and television, which included starring roles in the films "Drumline" and "Step Up". Fiona has also worked on several film soundtracks including "Obsessed", "Bridging the Gap", "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" and many more. She continues to work with other artists on their music including Jamie Foxx, Ray J and the late Ray J's brother Ashley.
She is currently working on her first studio album set to release in June 2013.
