Born in Madrid in 1837, Marquis de Acerba was a hero for the Catholic resistance in the year of the Carlist Wars. He joined the army fighting against the Carlists in 1876, and was soon promoted to lieutenant colonel. He was decorated for his bravery in the battle of Zarratón, when he killed four enemy soldiers with his own hands. He also participated in the battles of Almansa and Luchana
For his courage, he was awarded with the cross of San Fernando by King Alfonso XII, and later promoted to general of brigade. The Marquis de Acerba died at the age of forty-five, on April 27th, 1900. He is buried at Madrid's Church of San Jerónimo el Real
